Let's stir the pot! Netwit thrives on civility and sophistication, but sometimes it is fun to create chaos and incite anger. Get your popcorn ready and start your rage-venting through the magic of the internet.
Is it right to allow children to play video games?
On one hand, video games can be used to help sharpen the mind of kids around the world! Aside from being a fun pastime, video games come in a ton of varieties. Games of every variety can help train a child's mind, and games that include reading can help build someones vocabulary. A strategy game might even help kids look at the world in entirely new ways.
On the other hand, video games might lead children to become more violent or have a skewed view of how the world around them works. Kids playing games like Grand Theft Auto and Call of Duty might not truly understand or appreciate things like safety, law enforcement, or the importance of military.
So what do you think about this? I'd love to hear from you.
Hi there Milleroots! I allow my kids to play as much as they want. This is not our future anymore and a study on the subject, it shows that there is no link between playing violent video games and aggression in adolescents.
Source from the Oxford Internet Institute and the University of Oxford, this new study was published in Royal Society Open Science and is being touted as being one of the most comprehensive studies on the subject to date.
The idea that violent video games drive the real-world aggression is a very popular one, but it hasn’t tested very well over time.
Though I must say I'd be interested to hear what a hardcore feminist might have to say on the topic. Mostly through the scope of "toxic behaviour in video games" leading to children growing into toxic individuals.
I believe I know the study you mentioned! I would just find it fascinating to hear what a "gender studies" or "sociology" major might have to say on the topic!
I'd be quite interested to hear if they could provide any new and substantive arguments!
