This question focuses more on the consequence that if the chicken is born from an egg, where did the egg come from? Presumably from another chicken which came from an egg... Which came first.
Researchers found out that the protein essential for the formation of a chicken is only found on chicken ovaries and without it, the egg shell itself could never be formed. So without a chicken you technically can not form an egg. But all this depends on how you define a “chicken egg”, is a chicken egg laid egg by a chicken or one that simply contains a chicken (by definition). Obviously this chicken have to come from somewhere.
Now, example if a snake laid an egg and a lizard is hatched, would you call it a snake egg or a lizard egg? This one leads in favor of the egg, because during the reproduction phase two organisms pass along genetic information through DNA. Thus comes genetic mutation influence, which is a product of imperfect DNA contributions. So if the two chickens throughout the years created the first “chicken”, through an egg. So, the egg came first?
Although the process of evolution is very gradual, that no one chicken could laid the first egg and created the first “new” species at one time. At the end of the day, the only thing we can all agree upon is regardless of which came first true chicken came from an egg, so the egg came first. What do you guys think?
As mammals have proven you don't need an egg for birth.
No idea if there are exceptions but all animal gestate in an egg even humans.
In fact in the begining fish were the first living animals and they lay eggs.
If we look in to evolution, each species evolves from an ancestor. DNA is what differentiates one species from the other. DNA changes occur at ovular/egg level. So, EGG from which chicken hatched belonged to another species. SO, Basically EGG preceded Chicken, But, Chicken preceded Chicken Egg.
